Dear Grade 12 student,

Welcome to the Alberta Postsecondary Options Project (APOP)!

For this school year, our school has chosen to take part in a program called the Alberta Postsecondary Options Project (APOP), designed to help Grade 12 students like you get through the postsecondary application process. The idea is simple: instead of having you find forms and track down information you need to consider a trade, technical institute, college, or university program, we bring the application and information to you!

During a series of three workshops (Nov. 20 or 21, then Dec. 11 or 12), you will be using a specially designed website (www.myapop.ca) that helps you create a list of programs that you are likely to get into and shows how you can afford them. The workshops are for all Grade 12 students. If you already know you're on     your way to postsecondary education, APOP will show you exactly how to do it. If you're uncertain or have never thought about postsecondary education, APOP helps you consider your options before you decide. Even if you’re sure you won’t be going next year, you will have learned how to apply and how to budget for your future education, whenever you decide to go. One big financial benefit - Every single Grade 12 James Fowler student gets one of their post-secondary application fees covered by APOP.

The APOP website has been developed by the Social Research and Demonstration Corporation (SRDC) – a Canadian non-profit research organization. This work is funded by Alberta’s Ministry of Advanced Education.

Before attending Workshop 1, please read the section below on “Important Information About Accessing the APOP Website” and make sure you are able to log onto your Alberta myPass account. Please click the link below to learn more about MyPass and view helpful videos on how to create a MyPass account.

Important Information About Accessing the APOP Website

To log onto myapop.ca, you must be able to access your Alberta myPass account. Workshop 1 will teach you how to sign up for an account on myapop.ca, but you should make sure you can access your myPass account before the first workshop.

Whether or not you use APOP, you need access to myPass this year to do other important things like ordering transcripts and viewing your diploma exam marks, so make sure now that you are able to log onto myPass. Once you can log onto myPass, you are all set to go for the first workshop! If you’re not sure about what myPass is or whether you have access, please visit https://public.education.alberta.ca/PASI/mypass/welcome.

You can also talk to the school’s PASI administrator for help using myPass by visiting Ms. Gaskarth or Mr. Zarkovic in the Main Office.

This is an exciting opportunity to plan for your future!

Sincerely,

Keith Johnson, Principal

Simo Zarkovic, Assistant Principal
