Returning Grade 12 Students
Students are generally expected to complete their high school education in six semesters. However, the Calgary Board of Education does make exceptional provision for students to request a fourth year of high school. The criteria for this request are stated in Administrative Regulation 6093, which reads:
- The purpose of a fourth year of high school is to complete a program of studies or to meet exceptional needs and circumstances;
- a fourth year of high school education is not for the purpose of upgrading;
- For students who have not reached the age of 19 by September 1st for current school year, the Principal may determine that the student has demonstrated commitment and responsibility by attending class regularly, successfully completing most course and planning a courses load to meet or exceed the expectations of the school;
- and the student has complied with the school code of conduct.
As for 2024, James Fowler High School is no longer able to have Returning Grade 12 students. Students should make appointments with Student Services about different pathways to finish their education.
Knowledge & Employability (K&E) Course Registration
If your child is designated to James Fowler High School, simply make an appointment with a James Fowler High School guidance counsellor, and they can help your child register for K&E courses. If your child is not designated to James Fowler High School, you will need to go to your child’s designated high school in order to pick up a CBE school transfer form before making an appointment with a James Fowler High School guidance counsellor.

Regular Program
What is the Regular Program?
The Regular Program spans from kindergarten through grade 12, providing a comprehensive educational experience. In alignment with provincial standards, our curriculum not only integrates academics, arts, and physical education but also emphasizes tailoring the learning adventure to individual strengths and interests. We're all about inclusivity, providing special education resources to support diverse learning needs. Beyond the classroom, students dive into a world of extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, music, and community service, making every day exciting. We believe in teamwork, actively encouraging parental involvement through events like parent-teacher conferences, creating a collaborative and supportive educational atmosphere.
Alternative Program
Learning to Fit Each Student's Needs and Interests
Alternative programs provide a distinct educational experience by focusing on specific subjects or languages and engaging students with advanced learning methods or in unique classroom environments. These programs are designed to personalize education to meet students' learning needs and goals. Additionally, some alternative programs may be more flexible regarding schedule or structure, giving students greater control over their learning. Parental involvement is highly encouraged through activities such as parent-teacher conferences and school events.
Registration for Non-Canadian Students
Welcome to Our Diverse and Inclusive Academic Community!
We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to non-Canadian students who are eager to embark on an enriching educational journey with us. Our schools are welcoming, caring, respectful and safe environments where students will learn, make new friends, and discover their talents and interests. Students who are not Canadian citizens must register through CBE Welcome Centre, even if they have attended school elsewhere in Canada.
