- A positive learning/teaching relationship is central to providing the opportunity for students to have a successful school experience.
- Stakeholders are accountable for contributing to the total educational experience.
- Students should demonstrate responsibility for their own learning.
- We must address the increasingly diverse linguistic, cultural, family, and educational backgrounds represented by our learners.
- Every person at James Fowler High School deserves the right to work and learn in a safe and secure environment.
Who Was James Fowler?
The school was named in memory of a well-known and outstanding Alberta educator - Dr. James Fowler. Dr. Fowler built his life around education. His first teaching job in Calgary was as a high school teacher at Crescent Heights High School - at a time when it was housed at the building now known as Balmoral Junior High School. He retired as Principal of the Southern Institute of Technology and Art in 1952.

School Development Plan
Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report
Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
