Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are writing to provide clarity regarding instruction, assessment, and reporting for Semester 1 in light of the teacher labor disruption that occurred in October and Alberta Education’s decision to cancel January 2026 Diploma Exams. Our school remains committed to fair, accurate, and transparent assessment practices that support student learning and well-being. The following information outlines what families and students can expect as we approach what would normally be the final exam period.

No Final Exams
There will be no final exams and no exam schedule for Semester 1 courses.

End of Semester 1 Instruction
Direct, in-class instruction for Semester 1 concludes on Friday, January 23, 2026. This includes all programs, such as CSSI, PLP, The Class, and LEAD. Students should plan to complete all course work and assessments by this date.

Ongoing Assessment
Assessment continues to be embedded in daily classroom learning. Teachers gather a range of evidence over time to determine student achievement, including observations, conversations, and student work. This approach ensures that report card grades reflect a student’s learning across the semester, not performance on a single task or test.

No Separate Course Completion Period
There will be no course completion window after January 23. While teachers may gather additional evidence when needed, students must submit all assessments and course work by the end of classes on January 23, 2026.

January 26–27: No Classes for Students
Monday and Tuesday, January 26–27, are designated for teacher planning and report card completion. There will be no scheduled classes for students, student should not be at school on those 2 days unless requested specifically by a teacher.

Semester 2 begins on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Report Cards
Semester 1 report cards will be available a week after marks and comments are finalized. Families will receive further communication about when and how report cards can be accessed.

We appreciate your continued partnership and support as we work together to ensure students experience a smooth and successful end to Semester 1. If you have questions about your child’s progress, we encourage you to connect directly with their classroom teacher.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support of our school community.
