School Fees

An email was sent to parents/guardians this past week, outlining details for paying school fees. A hard copy of school fees was sent home with students today (Friday, April 12).

April 19 – Non-Instruction Day

There are no classes on Friday, April 19.

Lates

We have noticed an increase in the number of students reporting late to their classes in recent days. Please speak with your students about the importance of being punctual for classes.

Responsible Driving

We have recently had accidents and near misses in and around the school with students driving too fast, and not in control. It is imperative for the safety of the school and community that students drive respectfully and cautiously.

Student Parking Passes

We are offering an additional 15 passes at $15 for the remainder of the school year. Students are reminded they must display a parking tag, and park their vehicles in designated student parking areas.

Brave Dogs (HON)

Brave Dogs (HON) participants will be sewing at extended programs this upcoming week! Tuesday April 16 and 18 from 3:30 – 7 pm. Our program participants will have the opportunity to sew a ribbon skirt or a drum bag. All materials are provided by the YMCA Indigenous programs.

Drumming with Darcy

Due to a scheduling conflict we will not have drumming this upcoming Tuesday April 16. An alternate date will be set. Please encourage your child to check with Ms Whiteley if they are interested in learning First Nations singing and drumming from a master!

Imagine a Canada Project

Please join me in congratulating 2 of our grade 11 students, Paige H and Deakon R, who submitted a winning proposal to the National Center for Truth and Reconciliation in Winnipeg on behalf of our Council of Aboriginal Students and Allies (CASA) club. Their project aims bring our school community closer to reconciliation through learning and celebrating the Treaty 7 First Nations. Our project will be carried out in June to celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day. Paige and Deakon will be going to Winnipeg in May to an honouring ceremony for winning teams from across Canada. Great work team!

Grandmother Tea Ceremony

The Grandmother Tea will be taking place on Friday April 26 in the afternoon. It will take place during school hours and will be led by Cree Metis Elder Kerrie Moore. This ceremony encourages students to celebrate their strength and resilience as women. If your child is self-identified as Indigenous and female and would like to attend, please have them see Ms Whiteley in guidance.
