Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
Busing Concerns
We are hearing from you that some of our buses are very crowded and service is often late. We have made requests to Calgary Transit to add buses to several of our routes. If you have concerns about your child’s busing, please contact Calgary Transit and make a complaint (or “service request”). Parent voice is the most effective way for us to see improvements in bus service. Go to the dropdown menu to “Transit – Bus Route Schedule Inquiries”. We will continue to monitor our busing situation on a daily basis.
Clubs Week
From Monday to Thursday of next week, clubs will have booths setup in the library during lunch. Students are invited to browse club displays and speak to students and teachers about our school clubs.
Bollywood Dance Club
Come check out the Bollywood dance club during clubs week (Sept 9-13) to sign up for auditions! Auditions will take place the following week (Sept 16-20). This year we plan to explore multiple styles, such as Garba, Bhangra, Kathak and more! We are also looking for students to step up as choreographers and be willing to collaborate and create with other team members! For more information, please email Ms. Chugh at pachugh@cbe.ab.ca
Pick up and drop off at Fowler
As we did last year, we are again asking parents not to enter the north parking lot off 40th Avenue NW to drop off or pick up students before or after school. This is a tight parking lot without adequate room to turn around your vehicle. The lot becomes dangerous with the combination of students on foot, and vehicles attempting to turn around. Please do not enter this parking lot with your vehicle. Instead of the North Lot, we are asking parents to use the South Lot for drop-off and pick up. This parking lot has room to loop your vehicle through, drop your student, and proceed. Please do not park in the lot and wait for your students, as this is a staff parking lot. We ask that you drive slowly and carefully and be alert for pedestrians. Another option for drop-off/pickup is along 3rd St, or 36 Avenue. Please adhere to all parking signage in those locations, and be mindful of our neighbours in the community. We truly appreciate your cooperation with this matter. With the increase in our student population again this year, it is critical to have everyone onboard for these protocols.
Meet the Teacher Evening
On Wednesday, September 25, we invite you to attend our Meet the Teacher Evening from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. We will begin in the main gym for a brief introduction, followed by a mini-timetable that will allow you to experience your student’s travel day through the building, and visit their teachers.
Non-Instructional Day, Friday, September 27. No classes for students.
Attendance
When phoning in student attendance please make sure you spell your student’s last name (and speak slowly and as clearly as possible), give your phone number, and if possible, student ID #.
Textbooks
Please note that students will not be issued new textbooks this semester until all previously signed out books are returned.
Lockers
Lockers were assigned to students today (Friday, September 6). It is mandatory that students take a locker, as they are invaluable for storing and securing personal affects throughout the school year, and are crucial during exams to which students may not bring personal belongings. Students who were absent today must see the main office after Wednesday next week, at lunch or after school, to be assigned a locker.
School Fees
School Fees are now available to be paid. They may be paid online, or at the business office at the school. Payment plans may be arranged at the business office.
Fitness Centre
Our Fitness Centre will open next week at lunches and after school for students who have a filled out and signed Acknowledgement of Risk form, and Fitness Centre Rules and Expectations form. These are available in the main office.
Truth and Reconciliation Assemblies and Orange Shirt Day
On Thursday, September 26, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30), James Fowler will be holding a school wide assembly to honour the survivors of the Residential School system, remember the thousands of children who did not make it home, and to renew our commitment to reconciliation.
Thank you and have an excellent weekend!
